PALMYRA, Maine (AP) — Police in Maine are crediting a Palmyra man with saving a woman’s life when he pulled her from her burning car after she lost control and hit a tree.
Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputy Don Avery says Laura Morgan of Hartland was recovering following Thursday morning’s accident in Palmyra. He said the outcome could have been much worse if Chad Curtis hadn’t pulled Morgan free after spotting her car down an embankment spewing smoke.
Curtis tells the Bangor Daily News he used a knife to cut the seat belt to free the badly injured woman, and that the car became engulfed in flames shortly after he pulled her to safety.
Morgan was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where Avery said she was in stable condition. The accident is under investigation.
