Republicans meet
BETHEL — Maine Attorney General William J. Schneider will be the featured speaker at the annual Oxford County Committee picnic to be held at Bethel Town Committee’s Secretary Stan Howe’s house at 18 Broad St. on Tuesday, July 12. There will be a 5:30 p.m. social hour and 6:30 p.m. picnic dinner followed by Schneider’s remarks. There will also be an update on the recent Maine Legislature session by Oxford County legislators. All Oxford County Republicans are invited.
Intimacy workshop
RUMFORD — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing and Rumford Hospital have partnered to offer a free intimacy workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Intimacy After Cancer” will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 14, in Classroom C at Rumford Hospital.
Presenter Emily Ecker, oncology outreach social worker, will explore self-esteem and intimacy issues that may arise during and/or after treatment and find ways to affirm each other despite these changes. The workshop is developed by the American Cancer Society as part of the I CAN COPE series.

Library programs
RUMFORD — The third week of Rumford Public Library’s Summer Fest program will feature a visit by Elaine Michaud on Tuesday, July 19. An educator at Mountain Valley Middle School, Elaine is well-known locally for her musical talents.
On Thursday, July 21, Mary Kaubris and Addy Fuller will guide a trip around the world to learn about the country of Japan. Mary teaches French at Dirigo High School. Addy, who is one of Mary’s students, recently returned from Washington, D.C., where she participated in a national chorus.
Summer Fest programs are free of charge and are held in the library’s public room at 3 p.m.
Young readers can still get into the summer reading program, “One World, Many Stories!” which continues through Aug. 6.
Seniors meet
DIXFIELD- Neighborly Senior Citizens will meet on Wednesday, July 20, at the Dixfield Legion. Meeting will start at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck dinner at noon consisting of salads, sandwiches and dessert. Entertainment will be by the Crosbys.
The Cabbage Island trip will take place on Sunday, Aug. 14. Cost of the trip is $70 per person covering the cost of bus, boat ride and clambake, which will consist of a cup of fish chowder, two lobsters or chicken, steamed clams, corn on the cob, egg, onion, baked potato and blueberry cake with coffee or tea.
There is still space available. For more information, call Connie at 364-4189. New members are welcome and you do not have to be a member to go on this trip. Pickup will be at the Mexico Town Office and in Dixfield behind the town office.
