Richard A. Bean Sr. of West Paris has written a book, “A Strong Life,” filled with humorous tall tales and stories of humanity. Featured are such characters as Woodshed, Shrimp, Dampy and Uncle Nelson, who represent people living in Strong and any other small town in Maine.

Bean was born and raised in Maine, where he has worked and lived most of his life. He describes his writing as “filled with down-home humor and fond memories of bygone years in a small-town environment.”

The stories are based on true happenings, told with a bit of exaggeration at times.

Bean had one purpose in mind when he began writing — to rehabilitate a brain injury sustained while working as a private contractor in a paper mill. Most of the stories are true as he recalls them. His long-term memory wasn’t impacted, only his short-term memory and understanding of some words.
