LEWISTON — On April 30, the annual Androscoggin County Multiple Sclerosis Walk was held at Lewiston High School. More than 380 participants and volunteers helped to raise money and awareness of Multiple Sclerosis in Androscoggin County.
The walk consisted of a five-mile course through the Bates College area. With support from local businesses, the walk also featured raffles and door prizes along with a light breakfast and lunch for all participants.
Walkers were entertained at the start line/finish line by Stanford Fulgham and his nephew Delan Fulgham of FUL FAM Entertainment. Members of the Lewiston High School National Honor Society provided support and encouragement to walk participants at the Pettingill School Rest Stop. Countless volunteers helped set up the walk, register volunteers, assist at the 50/50 and raffle tables and help serve breakfast and lunch to walkers.
As of late May, the Androscoggin County walk site had raised $37,702.85 and donations were accepted until June 15. Statewide, the Greater New Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society reported that the walks had raised $17,000 more than the previous year. Monies raised go to help support research and client services for those affected by MS. The disease affects more than 3,000 families in Maine alone.
