Campmeeting

POLAND — The Empire Grove United Methodist Campmeeting Association will celebrate its 177th campmeeting Saturday, July 30, through Sunday, Aug. 7. The theme will be “With a Song in My Heart.”

Many activities are planned for adults and children, including softball, volleyball, horseshoes, bean supper, bike parade, Bible studies and Olympics.

The two Sunday services will be held at 11 a.m. There will be services each night at 7 p.m. preceded by a 6:30 p.m. old fashioned hymn sing. The worship leader for the evening services will be Kathleen Ordiway, a licensed lay minister from the First Baptist Church in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

There will be an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 6, to benefit the campground.

The Empire Grove Campmeeting is located on Empire Road in East Poland. The public is welcome to attend. For further information, visit www.empiregrove.org.

Vesper services will continue in the chapel each Sunday at 7 p.m. through Sept. 4.

Beaulieu benefit

LEWISTON — A dinner/social and calendar launch to benefit Marc Beaulieu will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at The Shipyard Lounge, Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The cost is $10 per person, $15 per couple.

Admission will include buffet dinner and DJ dancing. There will also be raffles, giveaways and a cash bar. A three-month raffle calendar of prizes will be available to purchase starting that night for $20.

Beaulieu, 43, is a 1986 graduate of St. Dom’s. Beaulieu had his left leg amputated from the knee down in April. With having been laid off and no health insurance, money is being raised for a prosthesis and to cover other expenses.

Barn open house

NEW GLOUCESTER — The August New Gloucester History Barn Open House, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 6, on Route 231, behind the Town Hall. The featured exhibit will be historic photos of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village Farm. Aug. 6 is the 237th anniversary of the Shakers’ arrival in America. The open house is free and open to the public. The History Barn is owned and operated by the New Gloucester Historical Society.

Jam workshop

LISBON FALLS — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Cumberland County is offering a workshop on low sugar blueberry jam from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Androscoggin-Sagadahoc Office, 24 Main St.  The cost is $10; scholarships are available.

The topic will be hot water bath canning of low-sugar blueberry jam and freezing fruit and vegetables. Instructor will be Kate McCarty, food preservation program aide and master food preserver volunteers.

Lisbon cookout

LISBON — A group of high school students in Lisbon will host a free local cookout from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Beaver Park. This cookout will support local farms and give free advertising to anyone that is willing to donate products. There will be games and activities throughout the day.
