Society supper
CARTHAGE — The Carthage Historical Society will hold a supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Town Office. The menu will include beans, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese and spaghetti. The cost for the supper will be $6.
Cruise night, dance
JAY — A cruise night and dance will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, at the VFW, 64 Jewell St. Cruise night is free and the dance is $5 per person.
Drivers are invited to bring their classic car, truck or motorcycle for the auto show from 5 to 8 p.m. Burgers, hot dogs and french fries will be available for purchase all evening.
Dancing will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight. DJ Mikie T from Dresden Mills will play ’50s and ’60s music.

Health center
KINGFIELD– Aug. 7-13 is National Health Center Week and Mt. Abram Regional Health Center will celebrate by sponsoring daily giveaways. There will also be a raffle for door prizes. Patients and the public are welcome.
An informational session on low cost prescription medications, MaineCare eligibility or any healthcare services will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Tranten’s Family Store, 363 Main St. Crystal Fitch, LSW, will be available to answer financial questions and there will also be free blood pressure screenings.

Irish folk duo
RANGELEY —Glenshane Irish Folk Duo, consisting of Jean and John Nesbitt, will entertain with songs, storytelling and fine Irish wit at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Although most of Glenshane’s music is Irish in origin, their program also includes a handful of songs from the U.S., Canada, England and Scotland.

Lawn concerts
WILTON — The East Wilton Union Church will host their annual August “Concerts on the Lawn” series starting Aug. 7. The concerts are held each Sunday evening in August beginning at 6 p.m. at 1306 Main St., East Wilton. The public is invited.
Chairs are provided but attendees may bring their own lawn chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held inside. Light refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow each concert. The concerts are free, but there will be an opportunity for a free-will offering.

Open house
JAY — The Jay Historical Society will hold its annual open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The theme will be “Chairs- Jay Historical Society is Rockin’.”
Aruna Holmes, the owner and builder of the Holmes-Crafts Homestead, home of Jay Historical Society, was a cabinet and chair-maker. One of his chairs will be displayed, along with many chairs of all kinds and descriptions from people in the area. There will be prizes for the oldest chair and the one liked best by the visitors.
For the kids, musical chairs will be played at 11 a.m., with prizes to the winners. Country music will be played under the tent from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
There will be a rock-a-thon throughout the day on the lawn with people “rockin'” steady for one, two or three hours, sponsored at $1 an hour by friends. More volunteers still needed to “rock.”
There will be a sale of baked goods and veggies, as well as hot dogs, sodas and Indian pudding. There will also be a lawn sale. Table space is available for $5. Free tours of the historical house. Call Dot White at 897-4876 for table space and to join the rock-a-thon.
One-room school
TEMPLE — The 200th anniversary of the Temple Intervale School House will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 13. This is one of the oldest one-room schoolhouses in Maine and is on the National Historic Register.
The Temple Historical Society will host an open house at the schoolhouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the same time, there will also be displays at Temple Town Hall. Light refreshments will be served. The 2012 calendar featuring the schoolhouse and some of the farms of yesteryear will be available for purchase.
