- Songwriter-guitar virtuoso Jim Gallant will perform at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, as part of the 2011 Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series at Bates College in Lewiston. With his roots in the rock and folk of the 1960s and ’70s, Gallant offers catchy originals and strong interpretations of contemporary covers. His repertoire is varied, ranging from jigs to a Bach fugue to New Age instrumentals. His latest CD, 2011’s “Old Hat with a New Coat,” shows off his knack for writing Americana music. The concert in the Florence Keigwin Amphitheater by the college’s Lake Andrews is free. Listeners are urged to bring a picnic and lawn chairs or blankets.
