NEWPORT, Maine (AP) — A Maine middle school science teacher has resigned after allegations he allowed some of his students to review questions on a state test a day before they took it.
William Brooks taught science at Sebasticook Valley Middle School in Newport for seven years.
Superintendent William Braun says Brooks handed in his resignation on Thursday.
Brooks, through his attorney, called the incident a misunderstanding.
The Kennebec Journal reports Braun wouldn’t say specifically what led to Brooks’ resignation, but an investigation into a “testing irregularity” by the Maine Department of Education was “certainly a part of it.”
A Maine Department of Education report found “reliable evidence” that questions from the 2011 Maine Educational Assessment science test were disclosed improperly to three of four eighth-grade science classes at the Newport middle school.
