RUMFORD — The family of Yvonne Turbide Campbell recently gathered at Rumford Hospital to dedicate the granite bench that family and friends purchased to memorialize Campbell, who served the community as a registered nurse at the hospital for 45 years.
Campbell’s son, Steven, led the group in remembering her by talking about what made them grateful to have had her in their lives and sprinkling holy water on the bench.
When Campbell died in 2010, her niece, Gail Door, with husband, James, spearheaded an effort to have funds donated in Campbell’s memory to purchase the granite bench, with her name and years of service engraved on the back rest.
The bench was placed in the entryway to the Emergency Department. “You see memorial stones in many places,” said Steven Campbell, addressing the group, “but this is not just a memorial stone. It is a place of rest and comfort for the weary.”
Rumford Hospital Director of Nursing Jane Aube was on hand to welcome the family and to offer the hospital’s gratitude for Campbell’s years of dedication and the care she gave to patients and her co-workers.
