RANGELEY —Rangeley Friends of the Arts and the Oquossoc Lady and Loon Lodge have teamed up to present the Downeast Brass on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
The ensemble of experienced musicians plays a range of styles, from classical to Dixieland. As music educators, the five musicians seek to reach audiences of all ages with original and entertaining programming.
The 45-minute presentation of “Music From The Lake” will begin at 8:15 p.m. on the Loon Lodge lawn. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Making up the brass quintet are trumpeters Dwight Tibbetts and Andy Forster, trombonist Mike Peterson, tuba player and bassist Mark Mumme and French horn player D. Loren Fields.
Tibbetts is a recipient of the Willie Maiden Award for excellence in composition and arranging. He has taught instrumental music in grades 5 through 12 for 30 years in Augusta. Also an accomplished pianist, he arranges most of the music performed by the Downeast Brass.
Forster has been an instrumental music teacher in the Messalonskee School District for 18 years. H is professional performing experience includes performances with the UMF Wind Ensemble, UMF and Bates College orchestras, Colby College Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble, Al Corey Jazz Orchestra and Mount Washington Hotel Jazz Orchestra.
Peterson teaches instrumental music in the Messalonskee School District. He was primary music director for the Waterville Opera House from January of 2005 through April of 2008, and was a guest music director at Colby College in 2007. He also performs with the Good-Time Sound barbershop quartet.
Mumme is director of instrumental music at Noble High School in North Berwick. He has also taught in schools in Orono and Needham, Mass. He is a member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Casco Bay Concert Band, and pays bass with with the Phil Rich Band. He has also played tuba with the Blue Hill Brass Quintet, Mainely Brass, the American Band and the Colby College Orchestra.
D. Loren Fields is a graduate of Lawrence High School in Fairfield, where he is band director for grades 7-12. He has performed with the Bangor and Portland symphonies, and has played French horn in the Augusta Wind Ensemble and the Manchester Brass Quintet. He has performed on stage with Barry Manilow and Colin Raye.
