Sports injuries

FARMINGTON — Franklin Health Orthopaedics sports medicine clinic will be back in high gear on Wednesday, Aug. 17, with a full complement of health care providers lending a comprehensive approach to the treatment of sports-related injuries.

The weekly clinic is for individuals of all ages who suffer from a sports-related injury, elementary through college-age students, as well as adult recreational athletes. Appointments can be made through physician and self-referral.

The clinic day is Wednesday with appointments starting at 8:30 a.m.

Staffing the clinic is orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nancy Cummings and physician assistant Isaac Ball, as well as staff from the Physical Rehabilitation Department at Franklin Memorial Hospital including a licensed physical therapist and a certified athletic trainer.

4-H market

FARMINGTON — The 4-H Open Air Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Tractor Supply on Wilton Road. Local 4-H members will be selling items that they have made, grown and/or baked.

Bert Knox benefit

CARTHAGE — A supper for the Knox family will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, from 5 p.m. until sold out, at the Carthage Community Building (Old Grange). Beans, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, rolls, punch, coffee and pie; $6 adults, $3 ages 5-12, under 5 free. Sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Bert Knox. Food Cupboard

STARKS — A benefit for the Starks Food Cupboard will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Camp of the Eastward, Sawyer’s Mill Road. Bring a salad, vegetables or dessert to share and the Starks Progressive Club will provide hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Children’s activities begin at 4, followed by supper; Magical Michael’s “The Show of Wonder” will be at 5:45.

A silent auction will be ongoing during the activities to benefit the Food Cupboard. To donate an item or a service to the auction, call 696-1064, best between 6 and 8 p.m.

Soldier honored

STRONG — Saturday, Aug. 27, will be the dedication of the “Stairway to Freedom” in memory of Sargent Richard K. Parker who was killed in action in Iraq on June 14, 2007.

This “Stairway to Freedom” took three years to build. Volunteers, friends, family and the committee members of the Lance Corporal Scott Paul Town Park raised the money through fundraisers, grants and donations. This major project was built by Extreme Builders of Salem.

A dedication ceremony will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 27, at Lance Corporal Scott Paul Town Park.

There will be a chicken barbecue immediately after the ceremony. A hot dog plate is also available. The menu includes baked beans, salads, corn rolls, drinks and desserts. The cost for adults is $8, and children are $5.
