BETHEL — Spuds and chowder take center stage next month at the 14th annual Bethel Harvestfest and Chowdah Cook-off on the town common.

Presented by Lays, the event starts Friday evening, Sept. 16, “with a party and tasting of delicious adult beverages” sponsored by Allen’s Coffee Brandy and hosted by Rooster’s Roadhouse, Robin Zinchuk, executive director of the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce, said Thursday.

“Come enjoy music and try out some new recipes,” she said.

The main event is Saturday, Sept. 17, featuring delicious food. Zinchuk said it will be accompanied by “wonder” music provided by Western Maine musicians, free horse-drawn wagon rides, a chain saw carving demonstration, dozens of local artists and craftspeople selling their wares,  exhibits and more.

“It all adds up to be a perfect day to spend in Bethel,” she said.

Local apple pie chefs will compete for Good Food Store gift certificates and local restaurant chefs will pit their chowders against each other’s dishes.
