OXFORD — Community Day at the Oxford County Fair Grounds will be on Sunday, Sept. 11, the 10th anniversary of the Twin Towers tragedy. The Community Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be several new additions to the display area of the Oxford Hills Fire Prevention and Safety Committee area. A slideshow of fires that occurred during the last year will be shown, with fire chiefs available to answer questions and offer safety tips for children and adults alike. Many door prizes will also be given away.
The newly renovated smoke trailer will be available for children to go through, with instructions on how to escape a burning room/house. The fire trailer from Waterford Fire will also be demonstrated.
As the Safety Committee’s corporate sponsor, Pizza Hut will be giving out certificates for a Personal Pan Pizza to those children who provide a drawing of the escape route for their home in case of fire, with a designated meeting place outside the residence. Families will also be asked to verify that they have working smoke detectors in their homes.
A small parade will take place around the fairgrounds to remember those lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The color guard from the Harrison Fire Department, as well as fire equipment from local departments will participate in the parade. Local veterans will be driven in a horse-drawn wagon in the parade.
A representative from the State Fire Marshall’s Office plans to join the Safety Committee folks to talk with those attending the booth about fire prevention and safety.
