NORWAY — Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary gave out end-of-year certificates of membership.
Members honored were as follows: Marcy Dullea, five years; Kim Hansen, 15 years; Theresa Dodge, 20 years; Rose Moulton, 25 years; and Thelma Denlinger, five years. Members not present receiving certificates were Rosalie Johnson, five years; Dawn Fritz, 10 years; Sandra Pendexter, 10 years; Melissa Sessions, 15 years; Jane and Laura Courcy, 20 years; Vicky Ferrell, 25 years; Clara Jewett, 25 years; Ellen Snow, 25 years; Dana DeCato, 40 years; Merline Martin, 40 years; and Ann Bickford, 60 years.
The June meeting was chaired by President Thelma Denlinger. Kim Hansen gave a report on Girl Staters 2011. Tony Cray, Daniel Allen and Abergail Morton were chosen as delegates. The Unit voted to give each Girl Stater expense money.
Unit scholarships went to Deanna Merchant, The Myra Stevens Award; Demi Rideout, The Stone-Smart Marion Millett Award; and Danielle Ilsley, Stone-Smart Award.
Barbara Henley reported on going to Rowe School to talk and read a book about Memorial Day. She also went on Flag Day to read to second graders.
Ladies of Auxiliary are planning a fall indoor flea market sale and also a raffle with an apple theme.
A donation to USO was voted on.
The meeting was preceded by a picnic supper, with baked beans, salads, brown bread and pies for dessert. The meal was co-chaired by Joyce Clifford and Rose Moulton, with help from Beulah Ayer.
Aides of Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and Mike Michaud were present to talk about what they can do to help veterans.
