DIXFIELD — Police are asking for the public’s help to find out who placed a homemade spike strip in a driveway, puncturing a 9-year-old girl’s foot.
The girl, who was visiting friends at a home on Main Street, was transported to Rumford Hospital to have a spike removed from her foot, Dixfield police Sgt. Jeffery Howe said. The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.
“This is not the first incident at this residence. Over the last few months the homeowners have found spikes placed in their driveway on several occasions,” Howe said.
The homeowners also have young children and are concerned for their safety. On three occasions tires on the residents’ vehicle have been damaged.
“It’s not just about the damage caused to the vehicle, this is a huge safety concern for us,” Howe said. “Not just for the little girl that got injured but for the family who may end up driving a vehicle that has punctured tires.”
Dixfield police have possible suspects, Howe said.
