TURNER — The Maine Supreme Judicial Court will hear oral arguments in an appeal aimed at stopping the construction of a new Hannaford supermarket. The hearing will take place Oct. 14 when the court convenes at Lisbon High School in Lisbon.
A 36,000-square-foot grocery store at Route 4 and Snell Hill Road was proposed in April 2009. It won Planning Board approval almost a year later.
Neighbors sued the town, saying the store was too big, among other issues. When an Androscoggin County Superior Court judge ruled that the town was correct in issuing permits, Susan and Philip Bizier appealed the decision.
Hannaford spokesman Eric Blom said the company hopes for a verdict before the end of the year. If the court rules in its favor, construction would start in early 2012.
The state’s highest court is holding sessions at high schools in Portland, Richmond and Lisbon in October.
