NORWAY — Stone Smart Post No. 82 American Legion invites all World War II veterans to a ceremony recognizing the sacrifice they gave during that war.
The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 24, at the American Legion Post at 212 Main St. in Norway.
A representative from the Maine Department of Veterans Affairs will be on hand to provide a “Certificate of Appreciation” from the people of the state of Maine.
In order to have the certificates ready, Ron Snow, commander of Stone Smart Post No. 82, says that he needs the veterans’ names, ranks and branches of service. Call him with the information before Mon., Sept. 19, at 744-9156 or email the information rsnow5@roadrunner.com.
Snow said it is important to recognize these World War II veterans and their sacrifices now rather than later. “Unfortunately we are loosing thousands of these heroes every day and it is just a matter of time before there are no more World War II veterans,” he said.
