WEST PARIS – The cause of a fire that destroyed a mobile home at 11 Yeaton Lane on Monday night remains under investigation, fire Chief Norman St. Pierre said Tuesday.

Four adults and a dog escaped unharmed when fire erupted in the home of Lorraine Greene who was home with her unidentified partner and two unidentified adults friends at about 10:30 p.m.

St. Pierre said it took about 2½ hours for some 35 firefighters from West Paris, Paris, Norway, Sumner and Woodstock to get the fire under control.  Firefighters had to fight the blaze with only one engine on site because of the road into the home. Firefighters had to lay 1,000 feet of four-inch hose from a pumper on Morse Hill Road and shuttle water from a hydrant at Trap Corner at routes 26 and 219.

St. Pierre said the fire was tough to get under control because the original shingle roof had been covered with a metal roof that had two-by-four planks in between.

“It made it very difficult,” St. Pierre said.

The fire victims were taken in by the owners of Mollyocket Motel in Woodstock and the Red Cross has been contacted to aid them, St. Pierre said.

“They lost everything. She doesn’t even have a pair of shoes right now,” St. Pierre said of Greene, who bought the house in January 2010.

The home was insured, he said.
