2. any veteran who has moved to New Gloucester

AUBURN — The National Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids is happening on Saturday, Sept. 17, at all clubhouses. Day for Kids is an opportunity for parents and kids to enjoy the club together in the spirit of enjoying family time together.
In the Lewiston/Auburn area, a family cookout, games and giveaways will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at the clubhouse, 43 Second St.

Rivier Retreat
LEWISTON — A Rivier Retreat will be held from Sept. 18 to Nov. 20 at the Convent on 201 Webster Street. The group will meet every Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
The retreat is a specially designed 10-week directed prayer experience limited to 10 to 12 participants. It is based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and the writings of Blessed Marie Rivier. It will be directed by Sr. Marie May Lausier and assisted by Cathy Brousseau.
Participants commit to pray 30 minutes daily on the scriptures given each week, attend each session of the 10-week retreat and the closing Liturgy and be open to share with the group about the past week’s experience.

Cancer advocacy
LEWISTON — On Monday, Sept. 19, hundreds of local cancer survivors and volunteers are expected to rally at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and call on Congress to protect funding for cancer research. The event is organized by local volunteers of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, to celebrate the organization’s 10 years of saving lives from cancer through public policy.
The event is open to the general public and will feature a variety of speakers including Dr. Peter Brooks, a cancer researcher from Maine Medical Center’s Research Institute in Scarborough. In addition, attendees will be invited to help judge a cupcake challenge featuring local bakers. The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, visit www.acscan.org.

LEWISTON — Knights of Columbus Council 106 will hold an open house at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, in the council hall downstairs, 150 East Ave. Light refreshments will be served.
