JAY — The Jay Livermore Falls Seniors held their first meeting of the season on Sept. 12 with 34 members and three guests present. The guests were Claudette Warren, Pat Laverdiere and Donna Cook.
The session began with a casserole meal provided by the members with a variety of food for every taste. Nancy Couture furnished the cake for dessert.
Shirley Couture, chairwoman, then opened the regular meeting with a prayer, salute to the flag and a moment of silence for the departed members and for the men and women serving the country here and abroad.
The treasurer’s and secretary’s reports were read and accepted as read. To the members who were sick during the summer Shirley wished them all well, and Edith LeBlanc was welcomed back after being absent due to an accident.
George Doiron entertained with a song. A thank-you note was received from the Knights of Columbus for a donation made to the organization in memory of Georgia Hersey’s husband. A thank-you note was also received from the Food Cupboard in memory of Margaret Cloutier.
Senior vouchers are now being accepted at Youly’s Restaurant in Turner for breakfast. There were some complaints from members that the vouchers were not being accepted at LaFleur’s on certain days. Shirley will look into it.
A whatever Chinese Auction will be held at the Sept. 19 meeting.
Shirley has Medicare Part D leaflets for anyone interested.
A public spaghetti supper will be held at the Knights of Columbus hall on Saturday, Sept. 17, for Camryn Berry and all were encouraged to attend in helping raise funds for her medical expenses.
The 50/50 was won by Marie Gagnon. Door prizes donated by Nancy Couture and Carol Redman were won by Georgia Hersey and Fernande Doiron.
Pat and Nancy Couture volunteered to provide refreshments at the Sept. 19 meeting.
