AUBURN – Mechanics Savings Bank awarded $1,000 Banking on the Future Scholarships to Lisbon High School graduate Taylor Haines of Lisbon Falls, Poland Regional High School graduate Connor King of Mechanic Falls and Gray-New Gloucester High School graduate Jeffrey Taylor of New Gloucester.

While at Lisbon High School, Haines was an active member of the law enforcement program through Lewiston Regional Technical Center. During his junior year, Haines was awarded the David R. Payne Memorial Award as the most outstanding cadet in the law enforcement program. Haines earned high honors in his junior and senior years and was the recipient of the 2011 Husson Leadership Scholarship. In addition, he was a member of the Lisbon High School track and field team. From 2008 to 2010, Haines volunteered for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

Haines will attend Husson University in the fall to major in criminal justice. His future plans include serving as a trooper with the Maine State Police.

Throughout his high school career, King was a member of the baseball and football teams and assisted with a number of youth sports clinics. He was also a member of the Poland Regional High School jazz band and was awarded the Saint Joseph’s Merit Scholarship. King also volunteered his time with the Mechanic Falls Rec clean-up day.

King will attend Saint Joseph’s College in the fall, with plans to major in finance and then attend law school.

While at Gray-New Gloucester High School, Taylor was an active participant in the National Honor Society, the Math Team and the Community Service Club. Taylor was a pitcher and outfielder for the G-N-G Patriots and was a member of the soccer and basketball teams. He received the 2011 Fredrick Skillings Award and the 2009 Sportsmanship Award. During his high school career, he also volunteered his time at the First Congregational Church of Gray Food Bank.

Taylor will attend the University of Maine at Farmington to major in elementary education. He plans to pursue a career as a school principal or guidance councilor, or further his studies in psychology.
