LIVERMORE FALLS — Police charged a 16-year-old boy on an arson charge on Saturday night in connection with a fire that was started in a garage earlier that evening at 33 Bemis St., police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.
A joint investigation between police and fire officials determined the fire was intentionally set in the garage, Steward said, according to police officer Steve Gould’s report. Investigators also consulted with a state fire investigator.
Neighbors reported seeing white smoke coming from a garage on the property at 6:31 p.m. Firefighters from three towns knocked down the fire quickly. The garage had minimal damage, and the house, which was 5 feet away, had no damage, fire Chief Gerry Pineau said Saturday.
The criminal juvenile case will go before a juvenile intake officer to determine the next step in the case.
