Apple Saturdays
NEW GLOUCESTER — The second and third of three Apple Saturdays are scheduled at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26.
Oct. 1 will feature apple art for kids, while Oct. 8 will feature a cider and doughnut sale.
Both Saturdays there will be free cider pressing. Attendees may bring their own apples or buy Shaker Orchard apples.

History Barn
NEW GLOUCESTER — New Gloucester Schools is the repeat theme of the New Gloucester History Barn Open House, to be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 1. The History Barn is on Route 231, behind the Town Hall.
Many school photos are on display. The New Gloucester History Barn is owned and maintained by the New Gloucester Historical Society.
Life Chain
LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Life Chain will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2. Local pro-lifers will line the sidewalks along both sides of the Longley Bridge and quietly and fervently pray for an end to abortion.
Every year hundreds of cities and towns across the U.S. and Canada minister the Life Chain message into the hearts and minds of their local residents. This will be Lewiston-Auburn’s 18th annual Life Chain.
The event is rain or shine. All are invited. Children under close supervision are welcome and chairs may be brought for the elderly or handicapped. Meet at Great Falls Plaza (next to the Auburn Post Office) at 2 p.m. to pick up a poster.

Prostate program
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free workshop to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Prostate Cancer Screening: How Does it Add up?” will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at CMMC, 12 High St., in conference room H.
The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test is designed for early detection of prostate cancer. Dr. Predrag Latkovich, a pathologist at CMMC, will explain how PSA test results are reported and what it means if the test results show an elevated PSA level.
Latkovich will also discuss how prostate cancers are graded which estimates how quickly the cancer is likely to grow and spread, the benefits and limitations of the prostate screening test and who is at risk for prostate cancer.

Lemieux benefit
WAYNE — A benefit for Melanie Lemieux will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Ladd Center, Gott Road.
The Wayne Community will hold a family-style supper in honor of Lemieux, who is battling cancer, in an evening of positive spirit and support for her and her family, which includes two young children. The menu includes spaghetti dinner, salad, dinner roll, homemade dessert, coffee, iced tea or lemonade. The evening will be accompanied by live music. The cost is $5 per person, with a $20 maximum per family.
There will be many items to be raffled, gift basket raffles and a 50/50.

Vendredi craft fair
CASCO — The Vendredi Club, a Casco women’s charitable organization founded in 1944, will hold a craft fair Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Casco Community Center.
