Texas hold ’em

HARRISON — Harrison Lions Club will hold a Texas hold’em tournament from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the VFW Hall, 176 Waterford Road.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be available.

Entry fee is $55. There is a limit of 100 players. Proceeds will be used to provide services to the community.

Rummage sale

SOUTH PARIS — A rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 1, at the South Paris Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., in the Good Cheer Hall.

Featured will be clean second-hand clothing, coats, blankets, linens, kitchen ware and furniture. None have been displayed for sale previously.

A bag sale will follow from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for $1 per bag.

Pistol shooting

WATERFORD — The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course for ladies only will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Fish and Game Range, Route 118.

The course will teach basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. The course certificate may also be used to apply for a Maine Concealed Weapons permit. Firearms and ammunition will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own firearm.

The fee is $45. The instructor will be Robert S. Baker, NRA certified pistol instructor. Preregistration is required.

Food Pantry

OTISFIELD — The Food Pantry will be open from from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, and the second Monday evening of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 583-4780 or 627-4329.

Physics for kids

NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library will hold a Discover Physics program from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, and at 3:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7.

Discover Physics is one of the programs in a series designed to get children interested and excited about math and science. This hands-on program is for families to complete together. Through different experiments children will learn how springs, simple machines, gravity and friction work.

While preregistration is not necessary, participants are asked to call the library. For more information or to register, contact Anna Gordon at the Norway Memorial Library, 753-5309, ext. 4. More science and math programs are planned in the spring.
