AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will open its 131st year on Monday, Oct. 3. The meeting will be held at the Park Avenue Methodist Church at 2 p.m. under the direction of president Bonnie Ross

Guest speakers will be Sue Dorris, principal of East Auburn Community School, and Michael Muir, Multiple Pathways leader. They will discuss the Advantage 2014 Initiative and the use of iPads as instructional tools in kindergarten. Members will have an opportunity to try out the iPads.

Benita Flynn is the program chairman of the meeting and will be assisted by Fern Desjardin, Lorraine Desjardin and Carol Seward.

All members are encouraged to attend this opening meeting of 2011.

LEWISTON — In honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, pets are welcome to be blessed from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at St. Peter and Paul Basilica, Bartlett Street.

Awana begins

NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Bible Church on Route 100 will start their Awana Club on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m, for children ages 3 through 12. There will be fun and games, snacks, songs, Bible lessons, Scripture memory and awards. This is open to the whole community.

LEWISTON — A 26-session “Nurturing Parenting Program for Teen Parents and Their Children” will begin Thursday, Oct. 6. It will be held Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Advocates for Children, B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St., Suite 204 and is open to any parent living in Lewiston or Auburn under the age of 21 with children between the ages of 0-5.

Participants will be introduced to infant and child massage, developmental milestones of growth, how to have fun with their children, nurturing parenting routines and ways to help children build their self-esteem and self-concept. Teens will also learn ways to delay pregnancy, handle peer pressure, sex, sexuality and date rape, increase personal power and build their own positive feelings of self.

Christmas Bazaar

SABATTUS — The Dominican Sisters Christmas Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at 61 Lisbon Road. Those attending can find out how to earn $5 merchandise vouchers.

There will be a special children’s room, plants, ornaments, books (many well known authors and latest selections), baked goods and a white elephant table.

Baked beans and finger rolls will be served between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Business workshops

CASCO — Oxford Hills Chapter of SCORE & AVCOG will hold a four-session business planning workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 on consecutive Wednesdays beginning Oct. 12, at SAD 61 Crooked River Adult Ed.

Subjects will include business plans, marketing, cash flow and financing. $50 fee includes one person and business partner for all four workshops.
