Duplicate bridge

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Sept. 23. An eight table Mitchell movement was enjoyed.

Finishing first in flight A N/S were Dick Allen (New Gloucester) and Pete Cummings (South Paris), second were Jim Krainin (Naples) and Milt McKeen (Bridgton) who also were first in flights B and C, third were Rosemarie Goodwin (Lewiston) and Luke Merry (New Gloucester). Finishing second in flight B N/S were Priscilla Rooth (Brunswick) and Hazel Glazier (Norway), third were Eilene Potvin (Harpswell) and Della Starbird (Oxford). Finishing second in flight C were Marlee Turner (Raymond) and Karen MacNeill (Casco).

Finishing first in flight A E/W were Lucille Theriault (Lewiston) and Richard Balian (Waterford), second were Jim Dickens (Naples) and Les Buzzell (Auburn), third were Pat and Mike Quinn (Otisfield). Finishing first in flight B were Paul Kahl (Gorham) and Rick Verrill (Gorham), second were Linda Smith (Oxford) and Jack Neal (Oxford) who also were first in flight C, second in flight C were Hank Sakrison (Poland) and Denny Raymond (Waterford).

Ticket auction

NORWAY — Second Congregational Church will hold its annual Ticket Auction on Saturday, Oct. 1. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the drawing will begin at 5 p.m.

There will be something for everyone including games, decorations, sewing supplies, household goods, food items and baked goods. Items are beautifully presented for holiday gift giving, thanks to Joanna Allen-Timberlake and Beth Allen. There will also be higher-end items available for $1 per ticket.

The snack bar will be selling hot dogs, chips, cookies, brownies and beverages. Proceeds help with the many missions of Women’s Fellowship Group. Everyone is welcome to attend worship service and Sunday school at 10 a.m. Child care is provided for infants and toddlers.

Potluck supper

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will have a community potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct 1. Guests are requested to bring a dish or make a donation. This is the monthly First Saturday supper. For more information, call Linda at 388-2263.

Paddy-Whack

FRYEBURG — Local performer Rick Adam, a.k.a. Professor Paddy-Whack of Buckfield, will celebrate his 25th anniversary performing at the Fryeburg Fair with the release of his new CD, “Professor Paddy-Whack Goes to the Fair,” and a new Fryeburg show highlighting his new songs.

In 1987 Professor Paddy-Whack first started entertaining crowds of fair-goers at Fryeburg Fair. This year, Professor Paddy-Whack will perform four show per day on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 2 and 3, and provide “roving entertainment” for the remainder of the fair.

Chinese auction

PARIS — The Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a Ticket (Chinese) Auction Saturday, Oct. 8, at Paris Fire Department, Western Avenue, South Paris. Doors open at 11 a.m. Drawing starts at 1 p.m.

There will be a lunch counter, more than 200 items, a 50/50 raffle and a dollar table. a portion of proceeds will be donated to Christmas for Teens in the Oxford Hills.

Finnish bake sale

WEST PARIS — Mission Congregational Church will hold a drive-through Finnish Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 8, at the intersection of Routes 26 and 219 (Trapp Corner).

Available for pre-order will be 9-inch fruit pies or traditional Finnish Nisu, rice pie, turnip pie or authentic mincemeat pie by calling 674-3747. Also available will be whoopie pies, brownies, cookies, muffins, breads, fudge and more. Hot coffee will be available.

According to Pastor Wally Farnum, “The local community was very supportive of our last sale and we invite you to drive by the church at 15 Church St. to see the new vinyl siding.” The church will hold an open house in November to show their appreciation to all who supported them during the renovation project.

Supper dance

LOCKE MILLS — A supper dance will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the American Legion Hall. Music will be by Boulder Ridge. A harvest supper of corned beef or ham, veggies and pies will be served. Doors open at 4 p.m. Adults $10, child $3.
