Food, clothing aid
LISBON — Hours for the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach food pantry and clothing bank are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturdays.
The physical address for food and clothing is the Marion T. Morse Community Center; enter from the Berry Avenue side behind the Lisbon Methodist Church.
The address for monetary donations is LACO, PO Box 281, Lisbon Falls, Maine 04252. Checks may be made to LACO. A collection box for nonperishable foods is now available during business hours at the Durham Town Office and area churches. Items needed on a regular basis are cooking oil, Bisquick or baking mix, dry milk, saltine crackers, peanut butter, jelly, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise, sandwich mix such as tuna, ham or chicken, coffee, tea, hot chocolate or any nonperishable.
Any donation of money, food or clothing is greatly appreciated. The clothing bank is now accepting fall and winter clothing. The Clothing Bank cannot accept furniture, appliances, etc. as they do not have the room to store them. For more information, call Debbie at 240-1637.
Kennedy Park movie
LEWISTON — A new movie called “Kids of the World” will premiere at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the Lewiston Public Library. The movie was recorded entirely in Lewiston’s Kennedy Park. The event is free to the public. Voluntary donations will be collected for UNICEF’s emergency relief efforts for the drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.
The total running time is 27 minutes. After the movie, there will be plenty of time for audience members to enjoy the Art Walk up and down Lisbon Street.
Apple art, spinners
NEW GLOUCESTER — Apple Art for Kids is the name for a special event at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, on Saturday, Oct. 1, beginning at 10 a.m. Kids will be given an apple to decorate with markers and stickers. Free.
The same day, R & R Spinners will hold a free demonstration of their skills beginning at 10 a.m.
Casting for Recovery
FRYEBURG — Bonnie Holding, Master Maine Guide and professional fly casting instructor, will introduce the Casting for Recovery program at the Fryeburg Fair on Monday, Oct. 3, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Holding will greet breast cancer survivors and their families and friends at the Trout Unlimited booth in the Natural Resources Building.
A nationwide program for breast cancer survivors, Casting for Recovery has been in the forefront of helping women move forward in their recovery since 1996. The CFR program “combines counseling, education, medical information and fly-fishing to build a focus on wellness instead of illness and on empowerment as opposed to helplessness.”
Fortier Chapter
LEWISTON — The Dr. Paul J. Fortier Council 52 of the Royal Arcanum-ACA Division will gather at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Senior Citizens room of the Multi-Purpose Center. Following the meeting there will be entertainment by Hannah Rodrigue on the violin. Refreshments will be available during this social time. Retired teachers
AUBURN — The October meeting of the Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Park Avenue Methodist Church. The business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the annual scholarship auction at 10:30.
Items for the auction must be there by 10 a.m. Items may include fudge, candy, cookies, pies, cupcakes, homemade bread and other baked goods. Books are welcomed, as well as puzzles, craft items, candles and other knick-knacks. This is a fast-paced, fun-filled time with all proceeds going towards the scholarship fund.
Following the auction lunch will be served by the ladies of the church. The menu is stuffed chicken breast, potato, veggies and homemade pies. The cost of the luncheon is $10. All retired educators and their spouses are welcome. Teachers need not have taught in Androscoggin County to attend. Dues for the year are $10 for educators, $6 for spouse and free for honorary members – those 85 and older.
Fire Dept. yard sale
DURHAM — The Durham Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will have a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Durham Fire Station. There will be books, furniture, toys and more. Rain or shine.
Proceeds to benefit Durham Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
