Art, book show
RUMFORD — Pennacook Art Center will open a new show at the River Valley Technology Center, 60 Lowell St. A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the Tech Center lobby, to meet the artists and view the art. There will be a door prize given to someone coming to the opening.
This show features two local artists and their books. Betsy Gray Bell and James Mulvaney have each published books that are available online. The Pennacook Art Center features paintings, drawings and photographs by local art professionals. The exhibit is available for viewing during the Technology Center’s regular office hours.
Public supper
MEXICO — There will be a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC (the “Green Church”) on Main Street. The menu includes baked ham, veggies and homemade pies. The price for adults is $7; children under 12, $3. Take-outs will be available after 5:30. Call 364-8603.
Red Hot Mommas
DIXFIELD — The Red Hot Mommas of western Maine held their September meeting at M. Pulsifer’s in Peru. Desserts, salads and beverages were provided. The birthdays were celebrated and a short walk in the woods to see the fairy houses took place.
The next meeting will be at the CMCC Culinary Arts Program in Auburn on Thursday, Oct. 20. The menu prices include tax and gratuity. Carpool from the Dixfield Post Office, leaving at 10 a.m. A headcount will be needed by Oct. 10. Call D Holman at 369-0746.
Quilters meet
RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. All area quilters are invited.
A fabric swap will take place. Those participating are asked to bring approximately 30 6.5-inch squares cut from 100% cotton pastel colored fabric that has been washed, dryer dried and ironed.
The 12.5-inch “fun fabric” squares will be collected. For more information call 562-7050.

RUMFORD — The Stephens High School Class of 1955 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Route 2 Diner, for their monthly luncheon meeting.
Seniors Frolic
RUMFORD — The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office TRIAD Program will hold its annual Senior Citizen Fall Frolic on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Rumford Eagles Club. The event is free.
There will be information booths available, music, Chinese auction, 50/50, door prizes and nickel Beano. The day will begin with coffee, cider and donuts, lunch will be hot dogs, beans, biscuits, coleslaw and apple crisp for dessert. Sheriff Gallant will give a short presentation on scams in area.
The program, The Right Idea And Direction, does outreach on crime preventions such as scam alerts in the local papers and presentations at groups or meetings. TRIAD’s mission is to inform seniors about scams and give them tools to handle the situations if they have fallen victim to scams.
Eagles anniversary
RUMFORD — The Rumford Eagles 1248 Auxiliary will celebrate their 60th anniversary on Friday, Oct. 14, at the club. A social will take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m., with dinner to follow. The auxiliary ceremony will follow dinner. There will be dancing to the sounds of Roadhouse from 8 p.m. to midnight.
A grand past madam president, Linda Heffner of Maryland, will be in attendance.
The Auxiliary has more than 450 members, including two remaining charter members who were among the instituting members, and six past-presidents, which also include one past state madam president.
Bike-a-thon
RUMFORD — A bike-a-thon to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 15, at Hosmer Field, Holy Savior School.

MEXICO — The Mexico Trailblazers Snowmobile Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, downstairs at the Mexico Town Hall. The group meets the first and third Wednesday of every month.
