NORWAY– A potentially unsafe traffic condition at Paris and Main streets should be resolved shortly, Town Manager David Holt said.

Road construction near the intersection has resulted in what one selectman said is an unsafe situation for vehicles trying to turn from Paris Street to lower Main Street and vehicles going from lower Main Street toward downtown Norway.

Selectwoman Irene Millett told board members at Thursday night’s meeting that she thinks the situation is unsafe motorists.

Holt said the construction should be completed in about a week and he thinks it’s best to let it continue rather than open up the contract to negotiate additional flaggers, which would be complicated.

Police Chief Rob Federico has said officers have responded to minor fender-benders at the site a number of times.

Road work has been continuing throughout town as part of a $1.2 million project to replace old sewer and water lines. It’s part of an effort to upgrade most of the town’s lines and separate storm water from the sewer system to prolong the life of the town’s treatment plant.
