LEWISTON – Tri-County Mental Health Services will observe 60 years of giving hope at its annual meeting Oct. 18 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn.
Keynote speaker will be Charlie Clements, MD, executive director of the Carr Center for Human Rights at the Harvard Kennedy School. His topic will be veterans’ issues and mental health. He is a public health physician and human rights activist. He’s the author of “Witness to War,” which became an Academy-Award winning documentary film.
Tri-County is featuring Clements and his story as part of its efforts to increase awareness of the effects of post traumatic stress disorder and the latest available treatments.
The evening also features presentation of the Giving Voice and Inspiration Awards for efforts on behalf of people with mental illness. Rose Lacasse is the recipient of the 2011 Giving Voice Award. She has volunteered hundreds of hours working with adults with intellectual disabilities at the agency’s Social Learning Center, sharing the wisdom and joy of Native American drumming.
The Inspiration Award is given to an agency employee for extraordinary work, and this year Mary Verrill is the recipient. She is a children’s case manager and is being recognized for her commitment to the families with whom she works, as well as to her co-workers and to the agency.
There will also be a silent auction featuring artwork, collectibles, unique services and gift items. Tickets are $30 per person. Sponsorships are available, and donations to the silent auction are welcome. Call 783-9141, ext. 381 for information or visit www.tcmhs.org.
