Sodality meeting

LEWISTON — The Ladies of St. Ann Sodality of Holy Family, Prince of Peace Parish, will hold their general membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Parish Hall.

Mediterranean diet

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free workshop to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “The Mediterranean Diet: Olive Oil Isn’t Just for Popeye Anymore” will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at CMMC, 12 High St., in conference room H.

The Mediterranean diet is based on the healthy eating and lifestyle habits of the people living in southern Italy, the Greek island of Crete and other areas of Greece in the early 1960s. Registered dietitian Corinne Cook will explain what a Mediterranean diet is, its philosophies and how adopting a Mediterranean diet can mean delicious, healthful meals.

Breast cancer

LEWISTON — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, St. Mary’s Health System will sponsor a special presentation of its Celebrate Health series focused on the disease.

Dr. Marsha O’Rourke, medical director of St. Mary’s Breast Health Program, will discuss the challenges breast cancer patients and their health care providers face, along with medical advances in detection and treatment methods.

O’Rourke’s presentation will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited, so call 777-4445 for reservations.

WALES — Licensed practical nurse Christine Hayden from the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will discuss breast cancer prevention at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Wales Youth Center on Pond Road (next door to the Wales Presbyterian Church). AUBURN — A workshop, “Marketing to Government 101,” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 20, at AVCOG, 125 Manley Road.

Topics will include: identify your target market, develop a marketing strategy, learn how the government buys, and how to price your product, how to promote it and where to sell it.
