MEXICO — The Mexico Fire Department ATV Fundraiser Committee is planning to host a Halloween Dance on Oct. 29 in hopes of reaching its goal of $10,000.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 for a social hour before the dance. The band Fair Enough will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will also be a costume contest with a grand prize of $100 for best costume, donated by Wentzell’s Auto Body.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the Mexico Fire Station or the American Legion in Rumford. Tickets also will be sold at the door.

Anyone wanting to donate money for the ATV fund can contact the Mexico Fire Department at 364-3612.

The committee raised close to $3,000 this past summer toward the cost of a six-wheel rescue ATV for remote rescues, Lt. Joe Burns of the Mexico Fire Department said.

The Mexico Firefighters Relief Association launched its fundraising campaign in May.

Last November, Capt. Ed Carey and his wife, Cathy, were hunting in Rumford and the ATV they were driving overturned. Andover Fire Department responded with its six-wheel ATV to help carry her out of a remote area.

Burns said he believes if Mexico Fire Department acquired a rescue ATV, it would provide a crucial service to town.

“The rescue ATV would also greatly reduce the time and manpower it takes to carry out an injured person,” he said.

Over the summer, the department had a toll road, a partnership with Pizza Hut for discounted coupons and an ongoing bottle drive to raise money.
