PERU — A 16-year-old girl was flown by LifeFlight medical helicopter to a Lewiston hospital Saturday night after she crashed her car into a tree on Ridge Road, Sgt. Timothy Holland of the Oxford County Sheriffs Office said.

Officials said they could not release the name of the driver until her next of kin had been notified.

Ridge Road residents David Magoon and Mike Barkhouse said they were inside a garage near the crash site when they heard a loud bang.

“We didn’t hear screeching tires or anything, just a loud bang and then a car horn going off,” Magoon said.

The two men were first on the scene and attempted to get the driver’s side door open.

“I had to cut the seat belt off from her, but we couldn’t get the door open and we told 911 they were going to have to bring the jaws of life to get her out,” Magoon said.

Magoon and Barkhouse said they held the girl’s hand and kept talking to her, but she was unresponsive.

At 10 p.m. the sheriff’s office had blocked off Ridge Road to traffic and were reconstructing the accident.

A person on scene said they believed the girl was a junior at Dirigo High School.
