DIXFIELD — Two teenage boys were charged with burglary and receiving stolen property in connection with a break-in at the Regional School Unit 10 central office Friday, police Chief Richard A. Pickett said Tuesday.

The 16-year-old was released to his parents’ custody and the 14-year-old was held by the Juvenile Probation Office and transported to a juvenile facility, Pickett said.

The 14-year-old is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on Nov. 8 and the 16-year-old on Dec. 6.

The break-in occurred Friday night and was reported by a school employee  Saturday morning, Pickett said. Combined losses in damaged and stolen equipment came to $38,000. Multiple computer screens were smashed, and graffiti was spray painted on the building and buildings on the football field.

A Tandberg video conferencing camera valued between $10,000 and $15,000 was also damaged, Pickett said.

Joshua Moore, 19, of Dixfield, was arrested Sunday and charged with burglary and receiving stolen property in connection with the break-in and vandalism, Dixfield police said. He was released from Oxford County Jail on Monday morning on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Nov 16.

Sgt. Jeffery Howe said he was able to recover an LCD projector valued at $1,000 and a Metal Gear Box hard drive from Moore.

Pickett said Monday that the department also recovered an iPad, wireless mouse, and a camera from the 16-year-old male. Pickett was able to recover 11 cell phones dumped in a catch basin on Monday. The cellphones had a total value of $2,000, he said.

Pickett would not elaborate on how the department learned of the suspects, but said community involvement helps.

“We need the eyes and ears of the community to work with the Police Department,” he said.

Pickett said anyone who sees something out of the ordinary or hears information on a crime should call the department.

“The public has the ability to remain anonymous and can call the tip line,” he said.
