NORWAY — A break in a downtown sewer line Wednesday morning is expected to be repaired by Friday, Town Manager David Holt said.
He said Sewer Superintendent Shawn Brown reported the break was in a smaller pipe connected to the main sewer line over Bird Brook and under the Quartz Bridge on Main Street.
The brook flows into Pennesseewassee Stream, which empties into the Little Androscoggin River.
Brown said no sewage leaked into the brook and no one in the area was affected by the break.
He said he noticed the problem Wednesday morning when he walked into the sewage treatment plant on Brown Street and found an unusual reading on a gauge.
Main Street traffic was reduced to one lane for several hours Wednesday afternoon to allow workers to insert cameras into the line to diagnose the problem. The main line was installed in 1964.
There was no estimate on the cost of repairs Wednesday.
