There will be no school in Lewiston Thursday and Friday of this week on account of the teachers’ convention in Augusta. A large delegation of teachers from this city will attend the convention. Special cars will be run to accommodate the teachers of Lewiston and Auburn and vicinity.

50 years ago, 1961

An ordinance proposal requiring motorists to “feed” parking meters until 9 o’clock Friday nights, the year-round, was passed to the hearing stage last night by the Lewiston Board of Aldermen.

According to Ward Three Alderman Roland Landry, downtown stores will be open for business on Friday evenings from now on and the parking meter ordinance will provide a faster turnover of vehicles during these hours.

25 years ago, 1986

The Auburn Zoning Board of Appeals will hear three variance requests Tuesday, including one from H. E. Callahan Construction Co. to enlarge its Turner Road office building.

The company is seeking a variance to enlarge its existing building by approximately 1,600 feet by adding a second story as well as a shop and warehouse building to the rear. The property is zoned Agriculture and Resource Protection.
