JAY — Selectmen voted unanimously Monday to extend Town Manager Ruth Cushman’s contract by one year.
Cushman asked for the one-year agreement, board Chairman Steve McCourt said.
“It’s not that we’re trying to get rid of her, that’s what she wants,” he said.
Selectman Thomas Goding said Cushman has agreed to work with selectmen on a town manager search.
Her current contract expires June 30, 2012. The extension goes to June 30, 2013.
Cushman, of Wilton, has served the town for 10 years as manager. She said she asked for a 1.5 percent pay increase because that’s what two employees’ unions have settled on recently.
Her current salary is $64,605.63 and it will increase to $65,575 on July 1, 2012.
