DIXFIELD — For the past seven weeks, volunteers have been building the new Countryfolk Music and Minerals Museum on Route 2 in East Dixfield.
Larry Bisbee, operator of the venue that showcases Maine musicians and awards youth music scholarships annually, said Thursday that the roof is now boarded and sheet metal will be delivered this week thanks to a donation from a local resident.
“We’ve been working six to 10 hours a day for several weeks since we closed for the season on Labor Day weekend,” he said.
Among the volunteers, Nal Lacroix of Lewiston, Lloyd Latham of Jay and Aubrey Farrington of West Paris have volunteered several days to the project, he said.
Additionally, Lonnie Blood of New Vineyard is working on the fireplace in the 30- by 60-foot building.
Bisbee said an anonymous Androscoggin County cabin and lumber company donated several thousand feet of lumber and log siding.
“Donations continue to come in for the Countryfolk Musem that will feature musician and songwriters’ photos, music, video and static displays, as well as offering workshop space for artisans,” he said.
The central theme will be the atmosphere of an Old Maine sportsman’s lodge.
Bisbee said a recent donation of moose antlers from Ben Stimans of Wilton will welcome folks in the main lobby.
Large windows with southern exposure will supplement the heating.
He said the project is expected to be finished by the summer of 2012.
