MEXICO — Carol Oakes Swan, R.N., 80, died peacefully at home on Main Street, Mexico, Sunday, Oct. 30.

She was born in Rumford, Feb. 13, 1931, a daughter of Derril and Ada (Cutting) Oakes, graduating from Mexico High School, Class of 1948, and from New England Baptist Hospital with her degree in nursing.

Carol worked at the Rumford Hospital and also as a private duty nurse for several years.

She enjoyed her home and family and was a wonderful cook. She was a member and past president of the Rumford Historical Society. Carol loved animals all her life and was always kind to them.

She was married in Gorham, N.H., in 1955, to Roger L. Swan, who survives of Mexico. Other survivors include her daughters, Rosemary Swan and Janice Swan of San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Lorna Albert of Las Vegas, Nev.; several nieces; and a nephew.

She was predeceased by a sister, Glenice Oakes Gardner.
