WINTHROP — Winthrop Lakes Region businesses and organizations will be able to enliven and support the holiday atmosphere in town through an Adopt-a-Pole program. The chamber will supply and install lighted holiday wreaths on poles that businesses and organizations can “adopt” for $50. Each pole that is adopted will have a sign to identify the sponsoring business or organization.
Unlike previous years, when Adopt-a-Pole was a contest in which participants competed with their decorations based on a holiday theme, the Adopt-a-Pole program is now an opportunity for regional businesses and organizations to sponsor holiday decorations in downtown Winthrop.
“In response to feedback from contestants, Adopt-a-Pole is being handled differently this year,” said Chamber President Victoria Christopher. “After four years of coordinating the decorating contest, we learned that participants wanted something else.”
“Nothing evokes a festive mood on Main Street quite the way lighted, outdoor decorations do,” said Christopher. “We want the decorations to be appealing and inviting to residents, shoppers and visitors, and we are hoping for a cheerful and more uniform display.”
Poles are available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional information, call Christopher at 441-1463.
