LEWISTON — Earlier this month, during the 10th annual Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour, donations from the tour were made to food pantries in 10 communities in central and western Maine.
The food pantries receiving a contribution were: St. Francis Food Pantry in Auburn; Greene Baptist Church Food Pantry in Greene; Tri-Town Ministerial Association in Jay/Livermore Falls; Pine Tree Social Center in Lewiston; Lisbon Area Christian Outreach in Lisbon; GRAMPA Food Pantry in Mexico; Monmouth Food Pantry in Monmouth; Oxford Hills Food Pantry in Norway; Community Free Baptist Pantry in Sabattus; and Community Concepts in South Paris.
Each pantry received a check for $110, which can purchase more than $1,500 in food through the Good Shepherd Food-Bank.
This year’s statewide tour will visit the most communities and cover the most miles in its history. The walk is expected to encompass a record of more than 1,525 miles, with approximately 725 of that on foot, and visit a record-setting 75 communities from Kittery to Madawaska.
The Maine Credit Unions’ 22-year Campaign for Ending Hunger will contribute nearly $30,000 to help end hunger through the tour, part of the larger initiative by credit unions to end hunger in Maine, which has, to date, raised and distributed more than $3.9 million.
