LEWISTON — A local woman has been charged with arson in a Wednesday afternoon fire at her Orange Street home.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said Wendy Bryce, 41, of 24 Orange St., set the fire in the area of the porch. No motive was given.
Fire damage was confined to the outside of the duplex, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Smoke and water damaged the inside of the building. No one was injured.
On Wednesday, Bryce told a Sun Journal reporter that she was baby-sitting the 3-year-old child of her former boyfriend, Jimmy Nelson, who is the owner of the building. Bryce told the reporter at the scene that she had just put the child to sleep before the fire started.
Bryce was interviewed after the fire and arrested later in the afternoon, according to the release. She was held at Androscoggin County Jail on $20,000 cash bond Thursday night.
