NORWAY — Phyllis “Penny” Noble Tucker of Waterford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center after a long illness.

The eldest daughter of Philip Tubbs Noble and Eleanor Brown Noble, was born on Oct. 21, 1926, in the same room that her mother was born in at the Brown Family Farm on the Greenwood Road in North Norway.

Penny attended Norway schools, graduating from Norway High School in 1944. She then went on to study dental hygiene at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating in 1946, she began her career in Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y.

While she was living in New York, she met the love of her life, John S. Tucker, who at the time was a cadet at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. They were married on June 12, 1951, at the All Saints Church in Great Neck. While living in New York and New Jersey, she and John had two children, Jeffrey Noble and Kimberly Anne.

They continued to raise their family in New Jersey until 1972, when they moved to Waterville. While in Waterville, Penny continued her career by working for Kennebec Valley Health in the Northern regions of Maine as a visiting school dental hygienist.

In 1987, after rebuilding their summer cottage on McWain Pond, John and Penny became permanent residents of Waterford. Penny was active in her community through Christ Church in Norway, the Norway Country Club, and her support of political causes.

Penny was a multi-talented woman, who could accomplish whatever was set before her, much like her father. She raised two children, sold two houses, and buried her husband’s father, all while John was away at sea. She was a gallant soul.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Captain John S. Tucker; sister, Mary Bowler of Hampden; son, Jeffrey and his wife, Janet, of Waterford; daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Michael Sacco, of Underhill, Vt.; grandchildren, Kara Tucker and fiance, Christopher Field, of Waterford, Collin Tucker of Waterford and Alexandria Sacco of Underhill, Vt.; great-grandson, Christopher Jeffrey Field of Waterford; stepgrandchildren, Michelle Sacco of Essex Junction, Vt., Michael Sacco of Santa Monica, Calif., Tom and his wife, Tatiana Sacco, of Akron, Ohio, and Kate and her husband, Tom Morse, of Asheville, N.C.; nieces, Janne and her husband, Jim Provencher, of Wilsons Mills and Chris and her husband, Dennis Hoskinson, of Anchorage, Alaska; nephews, Gleason (Gary) Rand of Allston, Mass., and Stephen Rand of Culver City, Calif.

She was predeceased by a sister, Anne Noble Penny.
