LISBON — Students at Philip W. Sugg Middle School recently completed a service-learning project at Beaver Park. The project was initiated by teachers and staff at PWS, consisting of Ms. Sue Welch, Mrs. Veronica Koza and Mrs. Karen Bergeron.

Under the direction of Verla Brooks, park ranger, the PWS students dismantled a bridge that needed repair. From there, students transported materials and select natural resources to the bridge site on the trail.

Beginning with the moment the students arrived on the work site and throughout the process, student showed great initiative and motivation to overcome the natural obstacles and to get the job done right.

“I am not surprised by the great effort and results these students put forth on this project,” said Assistant Principal Thomas Landberg. “In fact, they do this everyday in some of the most difficult and challenging tasks here at school.”

The park also provides a cross-country course for the PWS and Lisbon High School cross country teams, hosting two events annually.
