PORTLAND (AP) — A 40-year-old Brunswick woman faces sentencing for receiving food stamps and child care development funds from the state to which she wasn’t entitled.
A Cumberland County Superior Court jury this week found Sarah Fairbanks guilty of theft by deception and unsworn falsification.
Attorney General William Schneider says Fairbanks falsely reported to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services that she was separated from her husband and living alone with her children, when in fact she was with living with her husband and receiving support from him.
As a result, Schneider say Fairbanks received nearly $60,000 in benefits she wasn’t entitled to from January 2005 through May 2010.
