WOODSTOCK — Hundreds of people attended an open house to get an up-close look at wind turbines on Spruce Mountain over the weekend.
Tom Carroll, project coordinator for Patriot Renewables LLC, said the event was planned because the company had received many requests for tours of the project.
The development is almost complete with 10 turbines constructed, Carroll said.
The tours were held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and more than 200 people had visited by noon, Carroll said.
Stephanie Hilster-Croteau of Lewiston and her friend Carole Levescue of Durham said they were excited to tour the site.
“I think it’s phenomenal,” Hilster-Croteau said.
“It’s not as intrusive as what I thought,” Levescue said.
Carroll said the majority of people were surprised at how their opinions had changed about wind projects in Maine.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield said he was 100 percent behind the project.
“Patriot Renewables has done an excellent job,” he said. “They’ve been good right from day one and we have heard nothing but positive comments from those who took the tour.”
Carroll also said the company plans a grand opening tour in the spring.
The project by the Quincy, Mass., company is expected to be complete with all 10 turbines in operation by the end of the month.
