LITCHFIELD — An empty home burned to the ground on Plains Road Friday morning and state investigators were searching for the cause.
Nobody was hurt in the early morning blaze that destroyed a house and barn. A horse that was grazing in a nearby pasture was not harmed in the fire, according to Litchfield fire Chief Stan Labbe.
Labbe and his crew were called out at about 5:30 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, the buildings were completely consumed by flames, Labbe said.
The chief said the building was empty when it burned. It had been empty, he said, for the past three or four years.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to assist in the search for a cause.
