WILBRAHAM, Mass. (AP) — A groomer from Wilbraham is heading to court after a dog she was caring for died.
Police say 51-year-old Sharon Kozik, the owner of Lotte’s Professional Dog Grooming, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Palmer District Court on animal cruelty charges. She was charged following an investigation by Wilbraham police and Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Police say the toy poodle named Rusty died after Kozik allegedly struck its head with a pair of electric clippers. The MSPCA says X-rays of the dog’s skull showed a fracture consistent with impact trauma.
The Republican of Springfield reports (http://bit.ly/ukWQ25 ) the dog was muzzled while getting groomed because it was known to be aggressive.
Kozik could not be reached and it wasn’t immediately known Sunday if she had an attorney.
