MONMOUTH — Monmouth Community Players will hold auditions for “Moonlight and Magnolias” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, and 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 9-10, at Cumston Hall.

The cast, directed by Linda Duarte, is comprised of three men and one woman ranging in age from 30s to 60s.

This is a serious look at a funny, true story of the rewriting of the script for “Gone with the Wind.”

The shooting has started, but producer David O Selznick doesn’t believe the script is quite right. So, he gets Hollywood’s best screenwriter, Ben Hecht, and pulls director Victor Fleming off the set of “The Wizard of Oz.” Hecht hasn’t read the book, so Selznick locks them all in a room with five days with nothing but “brain food” (peanuts and bananas), and he and Fleming act out Margaret Mitchell’s bestseller so Hecht gets the picture.

Audiences can expect lots of enthusiasm, some slapstick and a glimpse into the depths of the characters as they express their dreams and beliefs.

Show dates are March 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and April 1.

For more information, call the director at 312-0161.
