Wellness info

MEXICO — River Valley Healthy Community Coalition will host a Worksite Wellness Roundtable from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in the Community Room at the Oxford Federal Credit Union, 225 River Road. Snow date is Jan. 13.

This is a chance to hear the latest wellness ideas, the science behind them and share concerns or challenges work sites may anticipate.

It is also a chance for work sites to ask questions, share any successes and challenges they may be encountering while creating a healthier workplace.

Featured speaker is Willow Sherwood, executive director of WELCOA Faculty, Wellness Council of Maine.

“It probably comes as no surprise that recent research shows that sitting all day at work is damaging to our health,” Sherwood said. “The Wellness Council of Maine will talk about policies and tips that you can use to get your workforce moving throughout the day. From stretching and simple exercises, to policy changes and computer downloads, you’ll get useful information that will help you and your employees get up and move and the great news is that it won’t cost you a thing.”

A healthy light lunch will be served. RSVP by Jan. 10 to Carol Emery, HMP manager, at 364-7408 or rvhcc@gwi.net.

The speaker for the evening will be Curtis Rice, the society’s vice president. Rice has written and published a booklet, “Historical Rumford Falls, An Illustrated Walking Tour.” The book is of much interest to former residents of the Rumford area, as well as the current population, as it shows a photo and details a brief history of various unusual and historically significant edifices throughout the town. The booklet is available for purchase from Bartash’s Card and Gift Shop and the Rumford Information Center.

Rice will give a pictorial presentation of his publication. All who are curious about the history of the buildings we all take for granted when driving or walking through the community are urged to come and learn more about them.

Following the discussion, light refreshments will be served.
